The Faculty of Pain Medicine has a number of entry routes for Fellowship and Membership.
Fellowship by Assessment: For Fellows of the RCoA in good standing who either (a) have satisfactorily completed advanced pain medicine training or its equivalent; or (b) are in career posts in pain medicine and wish their experience to be considered. Trainees who are currently undertaking but have not yet completed training in advanced pain medicine are not eligible to become a Fellow of the Faculty.

Fellowship by Special Application: For medical practitioners who do NOT hold an anaesthetic fellowship or equivalent specialist qualification AND have been admitted to the Fellowship or Membership of another United Kingdom Medical Royal College or Faculty or to an equivalent specialist qualification AND are practicing pain medicine in a substantive or an honorary NHS consultant post the United Kingdom.

Associate Fellowship: For medical practitioners holding substantive or honorary NHS consultant post in the United Kingdom with sessional or other contracted clinical commitment to pain medicine who are NOT Fellows of the RCoA.
Application form for Associate Fellowship
Membership: For medical practitioners employed in the United Kingdom in a substantive non-consultant career grade post (Associate Specialist, Staff Grade, Clinical Assistant, Hospital Practitioner) or Trust Grade or other post approved by the Faculty with a contracted clinical commitment in pain medicine. Applicants must have passed the Primary Fellowship examination of the RCoA or one of the examinations specified in Appendix A of the application form.
Application form for Membership of the Faculty of Pain Medicine
Associate Membership: For medical practitioners employed in the United Kingdom in a substantive non-consultant career grade post (Associate Specialist, Staff Grade, Clinical Assistant, Hospital Practitioner) or Trust Grade or other post approved by the Faculty in the practice of pain medicine who are not eligible for any other membership category and who have completed two years of Continuing Education and Professional Development as laid down in the College’s regulations for career grade doctors.
