Professional life and career
Postgraduate career
After qualifying was house surgeon, ENT house surgeon and resident anaesthetist at Birmingham General Hospital before becoming assistant visiting anaesthetist there as well as honorary anaesthetist, Royal Cripples (later Orthopaedic) Hospital and honorary visiting anaesthetist, Children’s Hospital. After WW2 she worked only at the Orthopaedic Hospital, and retired in 1964.
Professional interests and activities
Awarded DA(RCP&S) without examination in 1935. Said to excel at all of the clinical requirements of the time: give a safe anaesthetic, entertain the theatre staff with witty conversation, and control the surgeon’s temper!
Other biographical information
Also played hockey for Warwickshire. Married a surgeon (Robert Scott Mason) with whom she had three children. A keen equestrian, riding with the Worcestershire Hunt, she became skilled at pen & ink drawing in retirement.
