Contact the Training Department
The Training Department is part of the College’s Training and Examinations Directorate and covers a broad range of activities in support of anaesthetists across the UK. The principle activities include:
- Working with postgraduate deans, deaneries and the General Medical Council (GMC) in the quality assurance of anaesthesia and pain medicine training across the UK;
- Maintaining trainee records and recommend to the GMC at the completion of training for the award of either the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (Combined Programmes) [CESR(CP)];
- Managing the curriculum for the CCT in Anaesthetics;
- Support Regional Advisers, Deputy Regional Advisers and College Tutors;
- Support the national recruitment process for anaesthesia and ACCS-Anaesthesia;
- Support the Intercollegiate Committee for Acute Care Common Stem Training (ICACCST);
- Develop College policy on training issues and management of training across the UK;
- Develops policy and strategy for workforce planning for England and provide advice when required for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales;
- Assess applications on behalf of the GMC for the award of a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration [CESR]; and
- Manage the College’s International Programme for the professional sponsorship of overseas doctors under the International Programmes and Medical Training Initiative (Tier 5 visa).
