Biography

Dr Marie Nixon graduated from Kings College, University of London, in 1991. The majority of her anaesthetic training took place in Wessex (Portsmouth, Southampton, Winchester and Swindon) with a year spent in Leicester and at Great Ormond Street Hospital. She has been a consultant anaesthetist in Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust since 2002, with a special interest in major Upper GI and bariatrics, anaesthetic assessment and paediatrics and she continues to enjoy a heavy clinical commitment. Marie is Lead for the Upper GI anaesthetic service and led her department to accreditation as ACSA Lead.

Beyond her day to day clinical practice she has throughout her career had a particular interest in improving standards and education. As a trainee she was the Group of Anaesthetists in Training Chairman. As a consultant she has been College tutor and for the last six years an Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) reviewer and a member of the College body that runs ACSA.
