In 2017 the Royal College of Anaesthetists will celebrate 25 years since gaining its Royal Charter.  As part of the celebrations, we are planning a year-long programme of events and activities that will celebrate the achievements of the College; its history and role in the development of the specialty and our vision for the specialty for the next 25 years.   Further information about the 25th Anniversary programme can be found by clicking here.

The RCoA will be supporting various events throughout 2017 including the Edinburgh Anaesthesia Festival.

Overview:

The Edinburgh Anaesthesia Festival (EAF) is the largest Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Pain Management meeting in Scotland. Due to previous successes and increasing attendance levels, the EAF has moved to the world-class Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) – in the centre of Edinburgh.

This 3-day anaesthesia meeting will be held on 16th to 18th August 2017 to coincide with the various world renowned Edinburgh Festivals: Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Edinburgh Book Festival. It attracts 3-400 delegates from around the world with over 20 presentations from both national and international speakers. These speakers are recognised as authorities in their field and will deliver topical lectures on a wide variety of anaesthesia, intensive care and pain medicine.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Professor Brian Cuthbertson - Canada
  • Professor Brendan Carvalho – USA
  • Professor Anders Perner – Denmark
  • Professor Iain Moppett – UK

The Edinburgh Anaesthesia Festival has been approved by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for 15 CPD credits.

The EAF programme includes a Drinks Reception at the end of the first day. An annual Dinner is held on the second evening in the Scottish National Gallery, following a Drinks Reception and private viewing of Caravaggio – revolutionary artist and genius of the Italian Renaissance where an art expert will provide background to this incredible artist. The evening is full of fine Dining with an impressive Scottish, tasteful flare including Bagpipes, a short recital of Scottish Baird Robert Burns and Whisky Tasting. Guests, partners welcome.
