I have always valued my chosen specialty, together with the work and commitment of my colleagues. I recognise the difficulties and challenges faced by both ourselves and the wider medical profession.

Locally I am:

  • Consultant, specialising in paediatric scoliosis
  • College Tutor 3 years until 2005
  • Programme Director 2007 and then Medical Director (Education).

I ensure anaesthetics and perioperative care has a voice.

I truly believe I can contribute to the College by:

  • utilising my expertise in medical education and leadership roles
  • being known to create change locally and nationally
  • being ambitious for our profession.

I recognise the difficulties and challenges faced. I never rest while improvements can be made.

In my National roles have always ensured action rather than just sitting on meetings:

  • Chairperson of GAT (AAGBI 1997)
  • Chair of the National Association of Clinical Tutors (2012 – 2015)
  • Co-founder of the UK Delivering Excellence in Medical Education Conference
  • Member of the Academy of Royal Colleges committees on safe prescribing and the Temple report.

I am incredibly ambitious for our Junior colleagues, and created Clinical, Leadership and Educational Fellowship programmes. I recognise the need for clinicians to have a voice in the future.
