e-Learning Anaesthesia turns ten

e-Learning Anaesthesia (e-LA) celebrates its ten year anniversary this month as the award-winning, free online learning programme for anaesthesia.

One of the eight original programmes which were part of the broader e-Learning for Healthcare umbrella, e-LA has grown to more than 46,000 users.

Awards received by the programme include:

  • bronze award – Best e-learning securing widespread adoption - e.learning age awards, 2010
  • gold award – Best online or distance learning project - e.learning age awards, 2009.

As part of the ten year anniversary celebrations, we would like to thank the more than 400 authors who have helped create content over the past ten years. Due to their efforts, the e-LA programme now contains over 2,000 e-learning sessions, CPD articles and interactive multiple-choice-question tests structured to support Core/Specialty training, exam preparation and Specialist revalidation.

Russell Ampofo, RCoA Director of Education, Training and Examinations said: “The Royal College of Anaesthetists is incredibly proud of the development and success of e-LA. As a free resource to all UK anaesthetists practising in the NHS, e-LA delivers the knowledge and key concepts that underpin the anaesthetic curriculum and is a vital component to helping anaesthetists in training prepare for the FRCA examinations. e-LA is also of use to career grade anaesthetists in helping them to satisfy continuing professional development requirements for appraisal and revalidation.”

Dr Julia Moore, National Director of e-Learning for Healthcare from 2007 to 2016, explains the origins of e-LA in the College’s September Bulletin (available soon).

e-LA is available to all healthcare professionals working in the NHS. If you are not already a user and want to take advantage of the educational resources available on e-LA, you can register for access on the e-LA website.
