Joint RCoA and AAGBI SAS report launched

The joint RCoA and Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI) report Working together – Crossing boundaries, inspiring and supporting our SAS doctors is now available after being launched at the College’s flagship Anaesthesia 2018 meeting on 22 May.

The report was developed by the Specialty Doctor and Associate Specialist Joint Working Party (SAS JWP), which was established in 2016 and brought together teams from the RCoA and AAGBI.

Recognising the significant contribution SAS doctors make to anaesthesia, this report aims to better understand the SAS anaesthetist doctors’ needs and the barriers that exist for furthering SAS development. Through contact with SAS members, the SAS JWP’s discussions and other sources such as SAS surveys and gap analysis reports, this report details the College and AAGBI’s action plans and next steps.

This report is relevant to anaesthetists of all grades and subspecialties, and will also be of interest to other healthcare professionals. SAS leads and regional advisors anaesthesia may find this report useful to understand how best they can support their SAS doctors, and they could also use it as a tool to advise SAS doctors.
