Passing of Professor Michael Rosen

It is with great sadness that the Royal College of Anaesthetists announces that our past president (1988 - 91), Professor Michael Rosen, has died after a long illness.

A graduate of St Andrews University, Professor Rosen spent most of his working life as a consultant anaesthetist in Cardiff, where he contributed to the research activities of the associated academic department.

Professor Rosen was instrumental in the development of the specialty and under his leadership the College moved to our own separate premises, attaining full independence from the Royal College of Surgeons, and he was instrumental in us achieving our “Royal” College status in 1992, a year after his presidency ended. He was rewarded with a CBE in 1989.

Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
