RCoA consultation response on long-term sustainability of the NHS

The RCoA has welcomed the opportunity to respond to the House of Lords select committee inquiry on the long-term sustainability of the NHS, which aims to explore what the future of the NHS will look like.

Within this response, the College highlights the need for increased NHS funding as a proportion of GDP from Government, and the importance of funding to source an adequate number of training posts for the specialty. The vital contribution of anaesthetists to perioperative medicine is also emphasised, as well as the need for improved patient outcome measures in order to better evaluate healthcare interventions and prioritise spending.
