RCoA Trainee Committee response to publication of Cost of Training

Choosing a specialty in which to undertake postgraduate training is a critical juncture in the lives of all doctors.

We welcome the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges’ efforts to quantify the cost of training. This is, of course, subject to wide individual variation.

We hope the publication of The Cost of Training will stimulate a wider debate with particular regard to the regional variation in the allocation and use of study leave budgets.

To those Foundation Programme doctors considering a career in anaesthesia: we urge you to use this document alongside local, individualised guidance and support offered by the Royal College of Anaesthetists’ wide network of College Tutors and regional trainee representatives in conjunction with the comprehensive resources on our website.
