F

Fellows and members
Lower case: 'Jonny is a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists’.
Unless you are specifically referring to fellows in isolation, remember to include members but fellows should come first, eg 'fellows and members of the College'.

Membership refers to all fellows and members of the College.

Fewer than, less than
Use fewer, not less, with numbers of individual items or people. Fewer means smaller in number, eg fewer coins - less means smaller in quantity, eg less money.

Full stops
Avoid long sentences where possible. Concise sentences can help the reader absorb your message. Use full stops instead of commas wherever possible.

Focus/focused/focusing
Not Focussed or focussing.

Font
The College’s corporate font for use in Microsoft Office documents is Century Gothic.

Use the following font point sizes:

  • headings: point size 20
  • subheadings: point size 12
  • body text: point size 10

For more information, refer to the College’s branding guidelines on RoCI.

Foundation trust
Lower case unless the full name of the foundation trust is being used: Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.
