Publication of GPAS 2023

Published: 31/01/2023

The Royal College of Anaesthetists is pleased to announce the publication of the 2023 edition of the Guidelines for the Provision of Anaesthetic Services (GPAS).

This edition includes fully revised versions of the guidelines on Day Surgery, Anaesthesia Services in the Non-theatre Environment, Neuroanaesthetic Services, Anaesthesia Services for Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery and two new chapters on Cardiac and Thoracic procedures.

First published in 1994, GPAS supports anaesthetists with responsibilities for service delivery and healthcare managers to design and deliver high quality anaesthetic services. All GPAS chapters are developed using a rigorous, evidence-based process, and are accredited by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

GPAS shapes the standards used by the Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) scheme and is also recognised nationally by a number of regulators.
