Biography
Qualified at Leicester University in 1988 and trained mostly in the Midlands. Appointed Senior Lecturer/Hon. Consultant in Leicester in 1997. Transferred to a full time NHS consultant post at Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2014 and became Honorary Professor at the University of Leicester in 2016. Formerly ESA Pharmacology Subcommittee member, Anaesthetic Research Society Council; Vascular Anaesthesia Society chairman; Midlands Clinical Lead for Organ Donation (2015-2018). Editor of the BJA (2008-2017), Primary FRCA examiner (2007- 2018), Editor-in-Chief of BJA Education since 2018. Multiple invited scientific and educational lectures throughout the UK, Republic of Ireland, continental Europe, China, Brazil, Japan, Sri Lanka and South Africa. Author of many educational reviews, chapters and four textbooks on anaesthesia.
Clinical work in adult critical care and perioperative medicine with interests in anaesthesia for general and vascular surgery. Continues to be heavily involved in medical education, being senior undergraduate education lead for his Trust.
Member of the RCoA’s Clinical Quality & Research and Membership Media & Development boards; Events & Professional Development Committee; and the Patients Information Group.
