Event Clinical Content Lead

Lead in the design of the programme of a specific College educational event.

The College offers a wide range of educational events and other resources aimed at professionals of all levels and grades in anaesthesia, critical care, pain and perioperative medicine. Events range from one-day practical workshops to three-day scientific meetings delivered by high profile national and international speakers. We welcome over 5,000 people and award over 40,000 CPD points annually across our events programme.

As a Clinical Content Lead you will have the chance to shape the RCoA education programme in your specialist area of work. As part of this role you will have the opportunity to expand your leadership capabilities by taking the lead in the design of the programme of a specific College educational event, webinar, online presentation or podcast, alongside a member of RCoA staff. This will involve suggesting topical, relevant and diverse speakers and chairs for the programme as well supporting the event during the build-up, attending on the day and de-briefing to ensure event evolution.

Involvement:
Time required is dependent on the event, but typically three days. National, with travel.

What do we require from you?
Pre-event

  • Develop event content and themes to meet the needs of members, taking note of previous feedback
  • Suggest relevant speakers and chairs from diverse backgrounds and locations
  • Support speakers with the development and/or focus of their presentations if required
  • Assist the events team in developing marketing materials to communicate the event to a diverse network of professionals
  • Help the events team to identify primary event audience, as well as finding networks through which to promote the event
  • Contribute to any other clinical aspects of the event, eg poster competition, judging, awarding, panel discussions
  • To understand the event finances and the budget available
  • To assign CPD codes and General Medical Council (GMC) domains to each of the sections on the programme.

At the event

  • Attend the event in full
  • Assist the events staff with greeting and briefing speakers and chairs
  • Facilitate Q+A and/or chair sessions where appropriate
  • Fill or rearrange any speaker gaps as and when they arise
  • Support the RCoA in marketing the event and achieving the desired number of delegates. This will include writing marketing copy, articles and/or social media content, access to networks and suggestions of organisations and individuals who can help promote.

Post-event

  • Contribute your feedback and ideas to a post-event report, including presenting feedback to speakers
  • To assist in choosing which films of presentations are listed on the RCoA website
  • Aid the events team to provide feedback to speakers.

  • Reimbursement of travel expenses in line with the RCoA financial regulations with overnight accommodation when appropriate
  • Full management of the event finances and delegate registration, including break even numbers
  • To source and fully manage the venue for the event

  • A delegate place for you to attend the whole event
  • A certificate of attendance at the event
  • The RCoA team will invite suggested speakers and maintain a full list of those that have accepted
  • Administrative support from a dedicated team of experienced events staff
  • Written guidance for Housekeeping announcements and actions to be completed on the event day
  • Support from the Education Committee and/or Council Members when required.

Criteria

  • To be FRCA and/ or hold a substantive specialty doctor/SAS Grade or consultant post in the NHS or similar University appointment
  • RCoA Trainees will be considered for the role for an appropriate event
  • To currently be active in clinical practice
  • Able to demonstrate relevant clinical experience
  • Expertise in the subspecialty area of the event
  • This is a national role and may require travel depending on the location of the event
  • People without clinical experience will be considered for non-clinical roles at appropriate events.
