Professional life and career

Postgraduate career

House officer in ENT & Obstetrics at Middlesex, and Casualty at West London Hospital before joining his father in practice. After a few years he began to acquire hospital appointments: 1927, clinical assistant, Surgical Outpatients Department, West London; 1928, honorary anaesthetist, the Italian Hospital; 1929, honorary assistant anaesthetist, West London Hospital, and anaesthetist London Hospital Dental School & British Dental Hospital. By 1935 he seems to have become a full time anaesthetist and was honorary anaesthetist at West London, Royal Dental & Vincent Square Infants Hospitals as well as senior anaesthetist at the Italian and visiting anaesthetist at the Hostel of St John. These appointments continued, albeit with some hospital name changes, for many years and until his retirement circa 1966 when he was senior anaesthetist at West London and anaesthetist to the Royal Dental, Royal Masonic & Westminster Children’s Hospitals.

Other biographical information

The son of a doctor, he first registered as a medical student in 1913, but served in the Hussars during WW1, returning to his studies after the war. Married Hester Bain Garrard, but no children have been identified.
