Biography
I am a consultant anaesthetist with a broad area of practice. I qualified in South Africa and after spending some time there as a postgraduate, moved to the UK. I specialised in Anaesthesia in West Yorkshire and am currently a generalist in Anaesthesia, since 2009. I spend a great deal of time supporting patients with special needs within anaesthesia, with the majority being within diagnostic radiology. I have been closely involved in setting up a separate MRI Anaesthesia unit within our Trust.
I enjoy working with teams outside of the theatre environment and am Department Sustainability Lead, for which I was recognised in the Trust Celebrating Excellence Awards. In addition, my department roles include Wellbeing Lead for which I have worked with Trust psychologists, led Schwartz rounds and provided mentoring for both anaesthetists and other specialties.
As part of my interest in education I have completed a postgraduate diploma, served as a longstanding Educational Supervisor, a College Tutor, Training Programme Director and Regional Advisor. At the moment I work with College in the role of Lead RA and Chair of the portfolio pathway Design and Innovation group.
Outside of anaesthesia I am a keen walker, gardener and am lucky enough to live near the Yorkshire Dales.
