Professional life and career
Postgraduate career
After graduation Little was a house surgeon at Woking War Hospital followed by house physician at St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey, Surrey. From 1944 to 1945 he worked as a resident anaesthetist at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. In 1946 he joined the Royal Air Force Voluntary Reserve where he was Graded Anaesthetist with the rank of Sqn. Ldr. While serving in Palestine, he was mentioned in dispatches. After demobilisation in 1948 he attained a Senior Registrar post at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, and in 1950 he was appointed Consultant Anaesthetist to Gloucester and Cheltenham Hospitals. Finally in 1954 he moved to a Consultant post at Weston-super-Mare General Hospital, where he remained until his retirement in 1981.
Professional interests and activities
A member of the Society of Anaesthetists of the South Western Region, he served as its Treasurer 1959-62 and President 1975-76. In the NHS he served on the SW Regional Anaesthetic Advisory Committee. He had a special interest in dental anaesthesia.
Other biographical information
He married Judy Owen in 1941 and they had three sons (one becoming a general practitioner) and two daughters. From the mid-1950s to the 1970s he was active in the St John Ambulance, progressing from Divisional Surgeon to Corps Surgeon. He was also a freemason. Until his early 40s he enjoyed rowing, squash and swimming; thereafter his interests included gardening, woodworking, reading and music. He died at the age of 77 years, survived by his family.
