In this podcast, recorded at Anaesthesia 2025, host Dr Toni Brunning and guest speakers Dr Joe Lipton, Dr Joe Hogan,  Dr Hannah Headon, Dr Chris James and Dr Soumen Sen talk about the GPC Hub (Generic Professional Capabilities Hub), where the idea came from and what others can learn through their experiences.

Dr Toni Brunning

Dr Toni Brunning is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. 

She is a Council member and trustee of the RCoA and leads on the LLP workstream at the College.  

Dr Joe Lipton

Joe trained in London and has been a Consultant Anaesthetist at Guy’s & St Thomas’ since 2021, where he works as a generalist with an interest in anaesthesia for vascular surgery. He contributed to the assessment strategy in the 2021 Curriculum, leading on implementing Entrustable Professional Activities for early milestones in the programme. For the past 3 years, Joe has worked with a growing multi-professional team in South-East London, devising the Generic Professional Capabilities Hub; an educational framework that supports learning in the non-clinical domains of the curriculum.

Dr Hannah Headon

Dr. Hannah Headon (FRCA, MBBS, BSc (Hons), PGCert Med Ed) is a resident ST4 Anaesthetist currently training within the South East London deanery. Having always had an interest in Medical Education, she has been involved in the development of the Generic Professional Capabilities Learning Hub since its start, having previously presented the project at the 2022 Royal College of Anaesthetists College Tutor’s Meeting. Most recently, she has been leading on a qualitative research study investigating the impact that holding a leadership role in the Hub has had on residents.  

Dr Joe Hogan

Joe is has recently completed his ACCS Anaesthetics training in South-East London and has started ST4 training in North London. Joe has an interest in digital innovation in healthcare, as part of that has developed the online platform for the GPC Hub on the Future NHS website.
