Election to the Northern Irish Board 2020: call for nominations

Nominations are now open for election to the Northern Irish Board of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Meeting twice a year, the board provides an important link between the College and fellows and members based in Northern Ireland. Nominations close on 4 December 2019.
 
Prospective candidates can read about the board’s work and objectives here and are invited to discuss the expected contribution, time commitment and opportunities of the roles with the Chair, Dr Darrell Lowry
 
There are the following vacancies:

  • Three consultant vacancies
    Consultant members of the board are elected for a term of three years and are eligible for re-election for one further term of three years.
    Those eligible to stand are fellows of the College (either by examination or ad eundem) working in Northern Ireland who are on the specialist register of the GMC. Please note that eligibility is based on the main address that is registered with the College.

6 November 2019 – Nominations open
Those who wish to stand are invited to self-nominate and submit the completed form contained in the following link. Please note that names on the ballot will appear in the order that completed nominations are received.

Instructions are included, however please note:

  • the Form of Notice of Intention to Stand for Election must be signed (an electronic signature is acceptable)
  • the Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form must be completed
  • the Candidate’s Election Statement is optional but please note the statement must not exceed 200 words and should contain brief details of the candidate’s career in anaesthesia and reasons for standing. All statements received will be included as part of the ballot information.

4 December 2019: nominations close
All completed nomination forms must be received in the chief executive’s office (details above) by 4 December 2019. Any forms received after this date will not be accepted.
 
4 December 2019: finalisation of ballot details
This is also the final date for those voting to ensure that the contact details the College holds are correct. Election is by email only. Fellows who have not advised the College of their email or have changed their email address are requested to give notice to the membership team via membership@rcoa.ac.uk by 3 December 2019.
 
12 December 2019: ballot begins
All those eligible to vote will be invited to do so by email.
 
13 January 2020: close of ballot
Electronic voting will close at 5.00pm. The election results will be declared via the College website as soon as possible. The result will also be published in the College Bulletin.
 
2020 meeting dates of the board will be distributed to candidates as soon as they are confirmed.  Meetings are generally in the spring and autumn each year.
