RCoA submits evidence to All Party Parliamentary Health Group
Published: 01/12/2025
The All-Party Parliamentary Health Group (APHG) and the Higher Education Commission have called for evidence as part of its inquiry into Health Education and Training, which will be considering:
- Recruitment and retention of healthcare students
- Recruitment and retention of the educator workforce
- Collaboration between education and the NHS
- Aligning education and training with NHS service needs
- Resourcing and sustainability
We have submitted a response to this inquiry, reiterating the key data from our Interim Census Findings, outlining current and predicted workforce shortfalls, critical bottlenecks in the training pathway and the ongoing effect of this on both anaesthetists in training and Locally Employed Doctors (LEDs). We have included wider data from across the NHS as part of our submission, demonstrating the collective impact these issues are causing across healthcare.
We look forward to continuing to engage with the APHG on their inquiry and its outcomes.
