Professional life and career

Postgraduate career

Early posts included house physician at Connaught Hospital, Walthamstow, house anaesthetist at Golden Square (now Royal National) ENT Hospital and senior resident anaesthetist at the Middlesex Hospital. In 1935 he was appointed honorary anaesthetist at the Connaught and Golden Square (now Royal National) ENT Hospitals, adding the Westminster the following year, it remaining his main hospital until his death.

Professional interests and activities

Anaesthesia for ENT surgery was a major interest, and he later worked with this specialty at other hospitals. A careful, considerate & conscientious anaesthetist he took great pleasure in teaching undergraduates and doing it well. An undergraduate anaesthetic record card would suggest that his own interest in the specialty started during his student days.

Other biographical information

He married Elizabeth M Charles in 1940, and three children have been identified: Rosalind Jennifer, Reginald John, & Christopher. The death of his wife in 1960 disrupted an extremely happy family life and led to him becoming withdrawn & reserved. More information would be welcome.
