Final FRCA Exam Pathways

If you sit the Final FRCA SOE in December 2026, your outcome will decide your next steps:

  • If you pass: you complete the Final FRCA under the current format.
  • If you do not pass: you will transition to the new Final Clinical Performance Exam (FCPE) and take this from Academic Year 2027–28.

From 2027 onwards, candidates who have not passed the Final SOE will move onto the new FCPE.

Recommendation for Final Candidates - Wait to Sit

The Final Clinical Performance Examination (FCPE) is designed to mirror real anaesthetic practice and provide a clearer, more streamlined assessment pathway. Therefore, candidates may prefer to wait until the FCPE launches in academic year 2027 - 2028. 

Candidates who wish to wait to sit the new examination format should contact us if the validity of their written exam expires during this time. We will extend the validity by one year on request.
