Heritage Series Episode 4: The History of Military Anaesthesia Part 2
In this episode retired  Colonel  Soundararajan ‘Jag’ Jagdish and Professor Peter Mahoney about the emerging threats from Iraq and Afghanistan which demanded a completely different approach and considerable clinical agility and innovation.
Because of the nature of warfare the experience of the anaesthetists involved recorded here may sometimes be disturbing

Perioperative Cardiac arrest: getting closer to the NAP7 report

After a delay due to Covid, we are pleased to say we are in the final stages of NAP7. The baseline and activity surveys are complete and being prepared for publication. The NAP7 panel is working hard to digest all possible learning from the case registry. Here we provide a brief update, with the full report coming in late 2023. We are hugely appreciative of the contribution of all anaesthetists.

A blueprint for academic perioperative medicine?

Chatting in a pub in York in 2019, Simon Davies, David Yates and Gerard Danjoux were reflecting on their academic careers to date. The three colleagues from York and South Tees Hospitals had worked together successfully since 2012, securing prestigious grant funding and delivering high-quality academic studies. Yet something was missing – strategy and infrastructure to create a sustainable programme of work and develop the researchers of the future.

Conference and events cancellations - speaker FAQs

As we were: my Pask certificate of honour

Dr Richard Knight provides a gripping first-hand account of military surgical facilities during the Falklands War..."The doctrine under which the unit had trained was essentially the same as was used during the Second World War: treat a wound, evacuate and repeat to a major facility. The Falklands were 8,000 miles from any tertiary facility. Helicopter evacuation at night, when most battles took place, was extremely difficult."

Dr Fiona Donald is re-appointed President, and Dr Russell Perkins and Dr Helgi Johannsson are elected Vice-Presidents of the Royal College of Anaesthetists

The Royal College of Anaesthetists is delighted to announce that Dr Fiona Donald has been re-appointed after an unopposed call for nominations as the College’s President for a second year. The RCoA is further pleased to announce that Dr Russell Perkins has been re-elected for a second year as one of the College’s two Vice-Presidents, and will be joined by Dr Helgi Johannsson, who was newly elected after an open call for nominations from Elected Council Members.

College Ordinances 2023

On 16 March 1992, Her Majesty the Queen granted a Charter to the College, conferring the rights to use the title ‘Royal’. Thus, from being first the Faculty and then the College of Anaesthetists of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the College achieved full independence as the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
The Charter itself sets out the aims and powers of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and establishes its basic constitution. The Ordinances, which are scheduled to the Charter, lay down more detailed rules governing the way in which the College functions and runs its activities.
