Reinforcing quality assurance

Overseas postgraduate qualifications

Author: Steve Beglan‑Witt, Associate Director of Education, Training and Examinations

One of the advantages of starting a new role at the RCoA is that one can get going on a piece of work that everyone else knows is important but has their mind on other urgent matters. Evaluating the list of Primary FRCA exemptions is one such piece of work which our Education, Training and Examinations (ET&E Board) had on its radar for a while.

Until May 2025, the RCoA used to have 10 overseas postgraduate qualifications that allowed exemption from the Primary FRCA. This was more than twice what most other colleges and faculties had, and the reasons why we had those qualifications and only those qualifications have been down to historical individuals with contacts and connections who have moved on from their positions in the College.
